European Commissioner Dr. Tibor Navracsics visits the Congregation

On Tuesday, 26 March 2019, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Tibor NAVRACSICS, met the Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, H.Em. Cardinal Giuseppe VERSALDI, to follow up on the Conference for Ministers for Education in May 2018 in Paris. On occasion of the latter meeting, two congruent correspondences have been exchanged, expressing the “Holy See’s willingness to become more closely associated with the future Erasmus programme” and, on part of the Commissioner, welcoming this and “looking forward to exploring possible steps ahead” in this regard. After the meeting with the Prefect of the Congregation of Catholic Education, an academic event with the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport took place at the Aula Magna of the Pontifical Gregorian University, entitled „ERASMUS TODAY AND TOMORROW“, to “promote the ERASMUS+ programme and the future participation of the Holy See”. Next to the European Commissioner, representatives in the field of Higher Education of the Holy See, Italy, the Rectors’ Conference of Pontifical Roman Institutions (CRUIPRO), and Student Associations intervened and discussed the perspectives for closer collaboration and mutual and joint initiatives between the Holy See and Italy, also taking into consideration the development of the ERASMUS programme for the period 2021-2027.
